Philosophy and Rules

• We are breeders of Chihuahua breed dogs only, with the affix De Pancho Villa Luso. This denomination is duly registered with the FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale). The name was not randomly chosen, as it is composed by the name of a personality with a positive connotation in the society and history of the country of origin of the Chihuahua (De Pacho Villa – famous warrior and idol of the Mexican people) and Luso, this part of the name being attributed to honour the fact that this breeding has its origin in Portugal.

• This passion was triggered when I witnessed the affection and desire that my daughter (multi-disabled) has nurtured, since early age, for dogs. The constant desire to seek excellence has inspired me to develop this hobby / challenge, through which I intend to breed and have litters aiming the species evolution, based on the specific criteria of each Chihuahua. This activity is not my livelihood, nor is it intended as a way to earn money. The investments already made, and still to be made, are of significant amounts, so it will be difficult, in the short term, to recover that investment.

• All our dogs are, above all, part of our family. That is why they are treated with the utmost care, promoting their development into outstanding qualities, namely becoming gentle and sociable. They actually join us in our holidays, even abroad, having already been twice to Paris (in their first two years of life). They live at home, where they have their own “mansion”, which was designed and projected by us, exclusively adapted to the characteristics of the Chihuahua breed, covering solutions to meet all their needs both in terms of comfort and safety. 
• The mansion:
• – was designed using high quality materials, specifically its whole construction in oak faced marine plywood
• – surfaces that are easy to clean
• – non-slip floors in the maternity access ramp
• – sliding doors
• – heating that operates with thermostat
• – Bluetooth sound system
• – LED lighting
• – protected rail and video surveillance system. 
• The stallions come from a recognized lineage and with a LOP (which stands for “Livro de Origens Português” which in turn means Portuguese Book of Origins) full of rare qualities. Thus, and by itself, the guarantee of being able to have a good basis for the evolution of the breed in future litters.

• Excellence is part of our daily life, and it would make no sense not to apply it now in this project and challenge. We care for the personality, the appearance, the posture, the sociability, and the requirement that all puppies have their LOP (pedigree) of recognized bloodlines. As a guarantee, you may reach us through several contact channels, to answer any questions, and we may send in advance pictures of the first parents and their litters. We will always try to be as transparent as possible, thus giving the credibility required by those who, perhaps, seek quality breeding and exceptional service. We will edit the LOP and breeder numbers. The Veterinary Clinic of Viana do Castelo, which has been with us in the project since the beginning, may certify about the good care provided to the parents as well as to their offspring. Fluffy Pet (tailor-made services of excellence for paws) will also be available to provide any information required. We would like to thank all the teams that have supported us.

• One of our intentions will be, without a doubt, to exhibit and attend in national and international contests, which this year 2020 was not possible due to the puppies’ young age, but mainly due to the restrictive contingencies in the world health conjuncture (Covid-19), which caused the cancellation of all events. As soon as the exhibitions are restored, we, ourselves, will present our puppies, so that in this way they may be seen, valued and then rewarded, thus giving them greater notoriety and respect in the worldwide canine family. We will undoubtedly enjoy every moment, allowing us to share experiences and evolving in a mutual benefit.

While respecting and enhancing their physical beauty and the breed’s own characteristics, our main focus will be to address in detail such aspects like temper/personality training, but mostly the healthcare of each one of our Chihuahua.

• Our dogs are docile, friendly and cuddly, and will not be aggressive at all.

• Our first litter was only born after two years of life of the first mother, so we will respect the minimum period of time for them to procreate in a healthy way. The feeding was always based on a professional and responsible choice, and at the moment Royal Canin is our partner in this project, having been given exclusive access to excellent feed for professional breeders, in order to ensure the best for the breed. We always keep in mind the snacks as well as diversifying, at times, the feeding (between dry and wet) which is exclusively for small breed dogs.

• We want to create a supportive family environment for all descendants of De Pancho Villa Luso and perhaps for some others who want to join in this union of affection and support in the “Chihuahua Kingdom”.

• To acquire a puppy from our breeding, it will not be enough to have money and will alone. There must be a feeling, a commitment and an adequate profile, as well as required criteria that shall be meet in order to adopt a puppy of this particular and fragile breed (being the smallest breed recognized in the world), and moreover to have the privilege of owning a puppy of the De Pancho Villa Luso.

• We only have limited litters, well planned and managed, in order not to overload the mothers, as the aim is not quantity but quality. Therefore, we accept advance reservations by means of contacts and signed reservation contracts from both parties. It is important that the interested party, in this case, is aware that it may take some time before we have puppies available for delivery (gestation, breeding, weaning and respective socialisation takes 6 months, in average). 

• Our puppies will be delivered from the third month of life, so that they may, on one hand, already possess some good habits and trained skills, but on the other hand, so that they are still young enough to learn new skills and habits from the new family that awaits them impatiently. This means being social, comfortable with other animals and people, within the new environment and with the many different types of nature soils and smells that surround them.

• All puppies will be socialized, educated to defecate in appropriate doggy nappies, following the example of their parents. There will be certain basic learning rules, such as sitting to deserve an extra prize (treat or snack).

• The prices will vary from litter to litter, because being acts of Pure Nature, the evolution and details of each one will make them unique specimens, with attributes and details only visible after birth.

• The future Families / owners of our dogs will always have a direct line of contact and a 24h/24h + 7/7 emergency assistance, for the rest of the puppy’s life, which, in the case of Chihuahua breed, is just one of the longest-living in the canine’s world.

• The new owners will have to travel to be able to see the litter, as well as to create a mutual trust bond from that moment on, where instinct will play a decisive role. If you do not have time for that, you will not have time to be able to properly own a De Pancho Villa Luso.

• We can provide a personalised festive / surprise delivery service anywhere in the world. We have contacts and partnerships in place for special occasions and also in case you don’t want or cannot come to collect it. For each case we are willing to present a project and a quotation.

• Our breeding goal is to improve and achieve maximum excellence in the breed, as well as to be able to offer the new owners/families, another family bond/member that will be loved and cherished.

• Don’t think they are babies all their lives because of their physical appearance, which is in fact the smallest in the canine breed, as their brain will become adult like in any other dog. I therefore advise you not to leave them dependent on your presence. They will need to have their own space (clean and safe) where they feel protected and comfortable. E.g.: bad habits such as sleeping with the owners on a daily basis will be a factor in making them feel dependent which in turn will cause them to suffer anxiety in the owner’s absence.

• The work of the owners will have to be serious, with the responsibility to learn what is best for the breed, and in this way, being empowered to provide better healthcare and happiness to the dog’s life. I recommend visits to exhibitions, specialised training and any other type of tools you may find necessary to improve your knowledge on the breed.

• Veterinarian visits will need to be scrupulously complied with, thus, ensuring the best for the puppy’s continued good healthcare.

• We do not sell puppies to live outside home! The Chihuahua is a house dog, a family member that may adapt to live either in an apartment or in a villa, playing both in gardens or terraces / balconies. Much less will we hand over a puppy that has to live in a crate outside their home, in a cage/ kennel/ and/or to suffer exploitation and mistreatment. Neither will we sell the puppies to be birthday nor Christmas present for children. The new owner will need to be aware and committed to the purchase he intends to make, ensuring full responsibility for his actions for the rest of the dog’s life.
